2025 Apprentice Position

We are looking for a full-time apprentice on our small, certified organic vegetable farm in Northern KY.  The ideal candidate for this position is:

  • enthusiastic about sustainable agriculture and interested in farming

  • excited about the free exercise and fresh air you’ll get working outside

  • not afraid of hard work and lots of sweat

  • a natural learner and loves the satisfaction of hard work

  • someone who wants their work to feel meaningful and productive!

 

Priority will be given to candidates who have some prior farm or garden experience, but all necessary training will be provided.  Y​ou will learn the in’s and out’s of growing excellent produce for the direct market (we sell through our Community Supported Agriculture program and at three farmers’ markets) on a less than 2 acres with appropriate tools and technology.  


You will learn all of the basics needed to run a market garden:

-Seeding                                         -Bed preparation 

-Transplanting                             -Installing irrigation, row covers, landscape fabric

-Weeding                                        -Harvesting

-Working Farmers Market       -Training on our 2-wheel tractor

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Pay:  $13-15 per hour starting, depending on experience, with room for advancement.  Plus an end of season bonus of $500-1000 (depending on total farm sales for 2025)

  • Benefits:   Accrued PTO that can be used for sick or vacation days (approx 6 days over the season), fresh veggie seconds and farmers’ market returns, a home cooked lunch each Wednesday, educational opportunities through the Organic Association of KY, and lots of free exercise!

  • Experience:  You will gain valuable hands-on experience in the day-to-day operation of a diversified vegetable farm in your local community.  Planning, organizational skills, efficiency and hard work are crucial to the success of our operation.  These skills will serve you well in any future endeavor.  If you are interested in a career in market farming, a season or two of hands-on experience will be invaluable in helping you decide if this is the right path for you.

Hours:

We are looking for someone that is available to work starting Monday March 24th and through the end of November, with the potential for part-time winter hours continuing into the 2026 season.  Work will be part-time (3-4 days per week) from March through the end of April, full-time Monday-Friday 8:30am – 5pm starting in May, then back to part-time in mid-November.  We take a half hour lunch each day and on Wednesdays we all eat a meal prepared by Anna.  Other days you can bring your own lunch.

Our Experience:

Anna has been producing vegetables for CSA and markets for the past 12 years.  We plan to sell our produce through 80 CSA shares and at the Independence and Ft. Thomas Farmers’ Market. Anna will be training you and working with you on a daily basis.
